We decided that it was time to act and put together some of the more common penis myths and a breakdown of the truth.

If there is a falsehood that you think we haven’t covered, get in touch and we’ll be sure to include it in a future post.

A longer penis is better during sex

‘Long and thin goes too far in, short and thick, does the trick!’ If you haven’t heard the saying before, please accept my apologies for the truly terrible rhyme. However, a research study conducted by Women’s Health argues that a large majority of the participants preferred a penis that was shorter and girthier than one that was longer and thinner. That’s not to say that a long penis will not feel pleasurable, but this study helped to dispel the myth that shorter penises were inadequate.

Women care about the size of your penis

The university of California recently presented 75 women with 33 penises of all sizes and shape. There were carefully crafted using plastic but identifying features such as skin colour were removed. Based on these observations, the women preferred a penis that was on average, 6.3 inches in length and 4.8 inches in circumference. Hardly the huge whopper that we are led to believe that women want. Personally, I believe that both men and women are just happy to have a fulfilling relationship in which both parties are treated well and respected.

If you masturbate before sex, you last longer in bed

Who can forget ‘that’ famous scene in There’s Something About Mary, but does masturbation help you to last long before sex? There is no definitive answer to this. However, after sex or masturbation there is a period of recovery which is called the refractory period. During this time, any stimulation may be uncomfortable because your body is trying to recover. This may mean that it takes longer to feel sexually aroused, but this depends on factors such as your age and sensitivity. Younger men and women have shorter refractory periods, whilst older men can find it difficult to become sexually stimulated for 12-24 hours. So you may last longer the second time around, but you may also find it harder to get there.

Growers and Showers?

A grower is someone who has a small penis when flaccid but grows to a more substantial length when aroused, whilst a shower is someone who has a long penis when flaccid. For those who have spotted someone in the gym with an impressive penis and felt inadequate, evidence shows that showers don’t grow very much when around, so you probably both look very similar when erect.

A small penis can’t make a woman orgasm

The female G Spot is located just two inches into the vagina which means that it can reached and stimulated by almost any penis. Those with a penis size that is smaller than average can use positions that provide deeper penetration such as doggy style, or partner on top to increase stimulation to their partner to. During sex, reaching around to stimulate your partners genitals also increase their chance of orgasm. After all, lots of women struggle to orgasm during penetrative sex, regardless of the size of their partners penis, so a helping hand is often required.

The size of your feet will predict penis size

Ever heard the myth that a man with big feet means that he will have a bigger penis? However, studies have shown that there is absolutely no correlation between the size of your feet and the size of your penis. Other bodies parts such as hands, height and build have also been examined and there have been no consistencies among those either. Interestingly, your ethnicity does have some influence in the size of your penis. A 2013 study found that men of African descent tended to have the longest penises, reporting an average of 6.33 inches, while East Asian men reported the shortest penises with an average of 4.31 inches. European men are sized somewhere in the middle at 5.71 inches when erect.

You can’t break a penis because it contains no bones

It is true that the penis has no bones. However, the penis contains the corpora cavernosa which are fibrous tissues that carry blood supply and they are protected by ligaments. An injury to the penis is very rare but usually occurs when there is a misalignment during sex. When the injury occurs, the cracking noise that is not bone but the ligaments rupturing. When this injury occurs, it usually requires emergency treatment.

A penis can’t be enlarged

It is widely reported that it is possible to enlarge the size of your penis. Lots of men seek remedies to make a penis bigger such as pills, creams and surgery. However, medical interventions are not always successful and can have long term health repercussions. Using a natural method to enlarge the size of your penis can generate a better success rate with less risks. For example, using a hydro pump such as the Bathmate Hydromax for up to 15 minutes per day can help you to make gains to the length and girth of your penis in a way that is safe, effective and enjoyable.

A penis is straight

Just as penis’s come in all different shapes and sizes, they are very rarely perfectly straight. Some may have a slight curve in a certain direction. However, if the penis is dramatically curved, this can be a sign of Peyronie’s Disease. This is a condition in which scar tissue forms and creates a deep bend which makes sexual intercourse very difficult. This condition can be treated with surgery.
